Announcing Core Competency Innovation Grants

This new grant cycle is intended to encourage orthopaedic residency programs to promote the six core competencies as defined by the ACGME.  Applications will be accepted September 1-30, 2010.  Grants between $10,000 and $20,000 for the 2010-2011 academic year will be distributed in December.

Congratulations to 2010-2011 academic year grant recipients

218 fellowship and residency programs applied for grants and the OMeGA Board of Directors and Review Committee worked diligently to review all applications.

Grants up to $75,000 were awarded in nine sub-specialty categories.

  • Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery
  • Orthopaedic Oncology
  • Orthopaedic Sports Medicine
  • Pediatric Orthopaedics
  • Shoulder and Elbow

Grants were awarded based on objective criteria, allocating limited funds to the most meritorious programs.

Residency/general education grants up to $5,000 were awarded for activities and purposes, which included:

  • Develop arthroscopy skills course
  • Visiting professors
  • Cadavers
  • Surgical skills lab
  • Journal club
  • Resident research day
  • Motor skills lab
  • Develop statistics curriculum
  • Research coaching
  • Biomechanics immersion course
  • Basic Science Teleconference
